2 die, scores hurt in Maguindanao highway mishap
COTABATO CITY – Two persons were killed and at least 20 others were hurt when a cargo truck loaded with passengers lost its brakes and hit the roadside railings in a highway in South Upi, Maguindanao Friday.
Members of South Upi municipal police office, headed by Major Ronald M de Leon, town police chief, rushed the victims to a hospital in Barangay Tinaman after the 4 p.m. highway mishap.
Initial report showed that the victims were on board an Isuzu Elf cargo truck heading to Lebak, Sultan Kudarat to attend a wedding event when the truck lost its brakes while negotiating a curve.
One of the passengers said the driver whow as not identified decided to ram the truck toward the concrete and steel railings to prevent it from falling into a cliff in Sitio Sinako, Barangay Kuya.
The fatalities were identified only through their first names. They are Melanie, 18 and Hadji Abas, 70, all residents of Dalican, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
