2 mild quakes hit North Cotabato town
KIDAPAWAN CITY – A day before the national earthquake drill, two mild quakes hit
North Cotabato towns in a span of an hour Wednesday morning, the state
volcanology office today said.
In a bulletin Philippine
Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the first quake recorded at
Magnitude 3.5 came at 7:39 a.m.
Tectonic in
origin, it was traced 16 kilometers east of Makilala town and has a depth of 16
kilometers, the Phivolcs said.
Intensity III
was felt in Makilala and Intensity II in Kidapawan City.
The second tremor,
Magnitude 2.9 came at 8:39 a.m. and traced 19 kilometers east of Makilala. Also tectonic in origin, Phivolcs said.
Intensity II
was felt in Kidapawan City and Makilala.No reported
casualty or damages to property as of posting.
The National
Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council will spearhead Thursday a
nationwide earthquake drill.
In 2014, a magnitude
5 quake hit Makilala traced to a fault line that passes through Makilala and
Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.
