50 inmates in SK earn TechVoc courses from TESDA-12
KORONADAL CITY -- A new beginning awaits 50 inmates or “Persons Deprived of Liberty” after they finished the Technical Vocational Training administered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA-12).
A total of 25 inmates are now certified carpenters after they received their National Certificate (NC II) in carpentry and 25 female inmates received their National Competency (NC II) in Food Processing.
Israel Arboleda, Sultan Kudarat District Jail (SKDJ) warden, and TESDA Sultan Kudarat Provincial Director Amir Ampao led the awarding of certificates last week inside of the provincial jail facility managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
Ampao emphasized that the primary aim of the training was to make the inmates more competitive, restore self-confidence and productive once they begin a new chapter of their lives outside four corners of the jail facility.
“Our aim is to help them find work and give hope to their respective families,” Ampao said.
Base on the record of SKDJ, some of the graduates were set to step out of prison after the graduation.
The training program for inmates was one of the training programs designed and offered by TESDA for persons deprived of liberty, rebel returnees, former drug dependents, persons with disabilities, overseas Filipino workers, the disadvantaged, the poor and the marginalized sector of society.
TESDA-12 Regional Director Rafael Abrogar II said the training was one of the many training programs that TESDA offers not only for persons deprived of liberty but also for rebel returnees, drug dependents, persons with disability, OFWs and other marginalized sectors in the society.
