6 killed in separate central Mindanao gun attacks
COTABATO CITY -- Six people, among them an off-duty policeman, were killed in separate ambush incidents in central Mindanao in just three days.
The latest fatality, security guard Antolin Morales, 41, was on his way home Saturday night when two men on a motorcycle attacked him from behind while along Bonifacio Street here, killing him on the spot.
Two men armed with pistols killed Police Patrolman Franklin Moyet in De Mazenod Avenue here in another attack less than an hour later.
Moyet was a member of the Cotabato City police force under the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
A local businessman named Bjorn Herrera was killed by two men while driving his Toyota Fortuner along a busy street here before the separate gun attacks that resulted in the death of Morales and Moyet.
The shooting incidents here were preceded by the fatal ambush of ethnic Maguindanaon farmer Budsal Galay in Lambayong town in nearby Sultan Kudarat province.
Two were also killed in Kabacan town North Cotabato the day before Galay was shot dead by gunmen on motorcycles.
Basser Cabuyao and Karen Callos were riding a motorcycle together when gunmen positioned along a stretch of a highway straddling through the town proper of Kabacan opened fire.
Cabuyao was killed on the spot while Callos died in a hospital later.
