Ambush incidents leave soldier dead, hurt 4 civilians
MAGUINDANAO --- An off-duty soldier was killed while four others, two of them employees of the Department of Natural Resources-12, were wounded in separate ambush incidents in the past three days.
The slain soldier, Staff Sergeant Miranda Lumbatan of the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion, has just emerged from a mosque in Barangay Tanuel in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao after a nighttime Ramadhan prayer when two men on a motorcycle blocked his path and shot him with .45 caliber pistols.
He died from gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
The incident was preceded by the ambush in Pikit town in nearby North Cotabato of a barangay official named Samama Guiamadel, who is now confined in a hospital.
Guiamadel, who was on a motorcycle, was wounded when gunmen positioned at one side of the road shot him while motoring through, en route to the town proper of Pikit from Barangay Rajah Muda.
Guimadel is an incumbent member of the barangay council in Rajah Muda, a secluded farming enclave about three kilometers away from the town center of Pikit.
Two employees of DENR, Mariam Sabdullah and daughter, Hazna, and tricycle driver Kenneth Lozada, were hurt in a gun attack in Koronadal City the day before.
The victims were on a tricycle together when their attackers shot them with pistols, wounding all of them.
Responding personnel of the Koronadal City police immediately rushed them to a hospital where they are now recuperating.
