ARMM hiring new teachers
COTABATO CITY
(Sept. 1/NDBC) -- The Department of Education in the autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is hoping to fully address the perennial lack of
teachers in public schools, officials said today.
John Magno,
DepEd-ARMM assistant secretary for operations, said the more than 600 teachers
who are undergoing screening and rigid recruitment process will fill the
vacancies in remote villages of the region’s five provinces and two cities.
He said 625
teacher-applicants are undergoing screening at the DepEd regional office in
Cotabato City and successful applicants will be deployed as soon as possible.
Since May,
DepEd-ARMM had hired more than a thousand teachers for permanent positions in
Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, and the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu and
Tawi-Tawi and the cities of Lamitan and Marawi. The
recruitment takes time because we are imposing stringent validation of the
qualifications of each applicant,” Magno told reporters.
He said the
recruitment is based on DepEd-ARMM’s Teachers Assessment and Competency
Examination (TACE), a very extensive process.
Magno said
this 2014-2015 school year, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has
approved additional funds for the recruitment of 1,637 new teachers in the
region. (NDBC)
