ARMM LGUs urged to have disaster contingency plans
COTABATO CITY --The Department of the Interior and Local
Government in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao urged local government
units in the region to develop their own disaster contingency plans.
In an interview with DXMS Radyo Bida,
DILG-ARMM risk reduction focal person Mauricio Civiles said this is needed to
determine which particular areas are prone to disasters and what actions need
to be done in preparation for such an eventuality.
Civiles said that on the part of
DILG-ARMM, they have initially developed operational plans for immediate
response especially for human induced disasters. This is aside from the
regional, provincial and municipal risk reduction plans that are already in
place.
Civiles revealed that 12 towns in the
region have no internal revenue allotment and rely solely on ARMM-Humanitarian
Emergency Assistance and Response Team (ARMM-HEART) when disasters affect them.
