COTABATO CITY -- With the summer still coming but the
heat already getting intense this March, the Bureau of Fire Protection in
Cotabato City reminded residents to be always on alert against fires.

The BFP is the lead agency in
commemorating March as Fire Prevention Month, as declared by Presidential
Proclamation No. 115-A, because of the alarming increase of fires happening
across the country during this particular period.

To better avoid fires which could lead
to loss of lives and property, BFP Cotabato City encourage residents to always
be mindful of the following tipsand

1. Use electronic
appliances that are Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) approved. Make sure
that an issued ICC sticker is visible in each electronic product.

2. Make sure that
the location of appliances is appropriate for its use inside or outside the
house.

3.Always remember
to turn off electronic appliances and devices when not in use, before going to
bed, or before leaving the house. Neglected electronic appliances and devices that
are plugged in are a common cause of fires.

4.Keep sockets and
other electric wirings that can cause electric shock and fire our of children’s
reach.

5.Do not smoke, put
an ashtray, or candles near curtains, papers, cloth, cabinets and other
flammable materials. Even small live fires can start bigger flames.

6.Store materials
that can easily catch fire like paper, cartons, and curtains away from sockets
and lights. All non- LED lights release heat that can cause fire.

7. Most of all,
avoid overloading of sockets and extension cords. These can heat up and later
on cause fire.

Fire officer Jayson Nara, BFP Cotabato
City spokesperson, called on all resident to always keep in mind and follow
these tips to prevent fires, even as he emphasized that fire prevention is not
only for the month of March but should be practiced every day. (April
