Budol-budol gang strikes, victimizes retired teacher, trader
KIDAPAWAN CITY
(Sept. 4/NDBC) – A retired teacher and a businessman lost more than P20,000
cash to unidentified men who duped them in Kidapawan City on separate occasions
Tuesday, police record said.
Two women and
a man approached 68-year-old Prescilla Daroy of Barangay Amas, Kidapawan City
while she was at the town center.
The two women,
she told police, appeared to have known her and the people close to her when
they started talking.
Suddenly, a
man arrived and joined the conversation.
Daroy told
police investigators that she only realized later that she handed over to the
three persons her atm card, her jewelry and P10,000 cash.
She was a
victim of budol-budol” gang.
An hour later,
businessman Bernie Operio Gomez, 44, of Poblacion Antipas, reported to police
that he too was a victim of budol-budol” gang.
He said he could
hardly believe that throughout their conversation he was unconsciously handed
over to the suspects his P22,000 cash.
These
incidents have alarmed residents in the city and called on the police to
address it by deploying more policemen in populated places like public markets.
In nearby
Kabacan town in North Cotabato, police have arrested to persons believed to be
engaged in budol-budol” operations.
Budol-budol”
refers to a crime committed by unscrupulous individuals who prey on elders and
senior citizens by befriending and talking to them as if they knew each other
very well.
Police have
repeatedly warned the public not to engaged in conversations with persons they
do not personally know. (NDBC)
