Cakes, porridge down 9 in Banga, South Cotabato
KORONADAL CITY – Nine persons belonging to one family were hospitalized Monday
morning hours after eating cake and porridge in Banga, South Cotabato, health officials
and survivors said.
The victims,
now confined at the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital here, were residents of
Barangay San Vicente, Banga, South Cotabato, about 20 kilometers south of here.
Seven of the
victims were children aged one 1 to 12 years old, according to Valerie Salazar,
one of the victims. Two others were adults.
Salazar said
the victims attended a birthday party of a relative on Sunday night and feasted
to a birthday cake bought Sunday morning and refrigerated until the party on
Sunday night.
We
experienced abdominal pain, diarreah and some have vomited,” she told
reporters.
Dr. Conrado
Brania, chief of South Cotabato Provincial Hospital, the victims could have
been poisoned by spoiled cakes and porridge.
He said
samples have been taken from the victims for laboratory tests.
Only the
children remained in the hospital while the two adults have been discharged.
