Cotabato City village councilman died in police anti-drug ops
COTABATO CITY – A village councilman was killed when he resisted arrest during the implementation of search warrant
Saturday morning in Barangay Kalangnan Mother here.
Senior
Inspector Tirso Pascual, chief of Police Station 2, identified the slain
village councilman as Sadat Ayunan of Barangay Kalanganan Mother.
Ayunan
resisted and pulled a hand grenade, our personnel acted in self-defense, Pascual
told reporters.
Ayunan had
just been freed from jail after he was nabbed last year for illegal drug peddling.
But Ayunan’s family denied he was into illegal drug trade anew.
Also raided
was a house in Usman Subdivision, Barangay Bagua 2, Cotabato City but the high
value target managed to escape, Pascual said.
But the
raiding team recovered several unlicensed guns and suspected shabu.
The third
house raided during the operation led to the arrest of four persons who claimed
they belonged to Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as members.
The arrested
suspects admitted they have guns but definitely no illegal drugs. We keep guns
for self-defense because we family enemies, said one of the arrested persons.
Police hauled
the suspects and the recovered items to Police Station 2 for documentation and
processing.
