A day after its 48th anniv, NPAs torch banana cargo trucks in Gen. Santos City
GENERAL SANTOS
CITY – A day after communist rebels commemorated its 48th foundation
anniversary, about 50 New Peoples Army (NPAs) rebels torched a banana
plantation classifying plant here Thursday.
This despite high
alert status implemented by Police Regional Office 12.
Supt. Romeo
Galgo Jr, spokesperson of PNP-12, said the rebels came in hordes from three
different locations in Sitio PaoPao, Barangay Sinawal on board motorbikes,
trucks and jeeps.
After
introducing themselves they were communist rebels to security guards, they took
the personnel’s rifles and handheld radios.
The crime
scene is close to a road leading to the Gen. Santos City International Airport.
Benito Tayal,
one of the security guards of Amadeo Banana, told reporters
the rebels poured gasoline to two banana cargo trucks and set ablaze at about 4
a.m. then fled toward Gen. Santos City-T’boli, South Cotabato borders.
A Gen. Santos Ctiy PNP spot report identified the leader of attackers as Alvin Casamorin, alias Ka Rayray, of Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.Police also said the suspects fled toward Barangay Glamang, Polomolok, South Cotabato en route to T'boli town, also in South Cotabato.It was the second arson case perpetrated by rebels in the city this year.Galgo said
pursuit operations are still going on.
