Dayan surrendered, not arrested - report
Ronnie Dayan, driver of then Justice secretary now Sen. Leila de Lima, was not arrested but voluntarily surrendered, reports from Pangasinan said.Dayan has been in hiding in La Union since August when the news linking him to illegal drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison broke out, a relative said.He has been contemplating of surrendering to police when his name was dragged into illegal drug trade activities inside the penitentiary. But opted to hide for fear he will be liquidated while in police custody. Alegria, a relative, told reporters in Pangasinan that Dayan's brother, a local village official, sought the assurance from police in Pangasinan about his brother's safety once he decides to surrender.Pangasinan police director Senior Supt. Ronald Lee, assured Dayan's safety once he submits himself to authorities.When the surrender process was finalized, the Pangasinan police went to Bacnotan, La Union where a relative was waiting. The relative guided the police to Barangay (village) San Felipe, San Juan, La Union.Police found Dayan in the middle of the field of crops sitting calmly under a tree waiting for the police.Dayan had lost weight.
