DOH-12 launches national oral health month
COTABATO CITY -- Targeting pregnant women this time, the
Department of Health Region (DOH-12) kicked off this year’s celebration of
National Oral Health Month on Monday with a motorcade and a launching activity
which included lectures and dental kits distribution at a mall here.
This year's dental health month theme, Ngipin Ay Alagaan
Mula Sa Sinapupunan Para Sa Magandang Ngiti Hanggang Katandaan, focuses
on mothers and maternal health.

focused on day care children. This time, gustong ipakita ng DOH na pregnancy
period palang binibigyan na nang importance ang mga mothers, said Dr.
Nikkie Regine Pader, Medical Officer III and head of DOH XII’s Family Health
Cluster.
Among the topics discussed in the lectures were Good Oral Health
in Pregnancy, Nutrition for Pregnant Mothers, Model Family and Responsible
Parenting and Demonstration/Return Demonstration on Proper Tooth.
The activity emphasized the importance of oral health as well as
the importance of proper nutrition and family planning especially among those
aged 15 - 49 or also known as the reproductive age for women.
DOH XII and its partners, the Philippine Dental Association,
City Government, City Health Office, Cotabato Regional and Medical Center,
Philippine Army gave kits containing tooth brush and toothpaste to all the
pregnant women who attended.
The Philippine Dental Health Month is observed yearly in
February. This annual observance started in 1951 as National Dental Health Week
but in February 24, 2004, it was expanded into a month-long celebration,
pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 559 signed by then President Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo.
