Farmers affected by calamity get palay, corn seeds assistance
KIDAPAWAN CITY
– To increase productivity and improve farmers’ income, the North Cotabato
office of the provincial agriculturist (OPAg) distributed more than 4,000 bags
of palay seeds and 1,042 open pollinated variety (OPV) of white corn seeds.
The seed
distribution was part of the Provincial Rice and Corn Calamity Seeds Assistance
Program (PRCCSA).
Provincial
Agriculturist Engr. Eliseo M. Mangliwan said the beneficiaries were victims of
latest flash floods and floods that hit the agricultural areas of North
Cotabato.
The palay
seeds cost P1,200 per bag while the OPV white corn costs P1,360 each bag.
Palay seeds
were dispersed in Pigcawayan town with 133 bags, Kabacan (143), Matalam (83
bags), Carmen (935), Tulunan (85), Midsayap (349), Matalam (120), M’lang (34),
Kabacan (660) and Aleosan (114).
Corn seeds
were also distributed in Aleosan (14 bags), Pikit (642), Midsayap (267), M’lang
(168), Matalam (9).
Magliwan
explained that the PRCCSA program aims to help farmers affected by floods and
calamities to recover and become productive again.
Mangliwan said
North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Mendoza has ordered OPAg to ensure the farmers who
suffered losses should receive assistance form the government.
