COTABATO CITY -- The City Civil Registry
Office (CCRCO) here has called the attention of its clientele to the importance of
Civil Registration Month, celebrated yearly every February as mandated by
Proclamation 682 issued by former President Corazon Aquino on January 28, 1991.

The theme for this celebration this year
is #napapanahongCRVS .

According to Joel Telin, Registration
Officer III of the CCRO, registration of all births, marriages and death is
compulsory. It is necessary for the issuance of licenses, certificates and similar
official documents regarding to the status of a person.

This month of February we enhance the
civil registration program and activities of the office to promote awareness
on the importance of civil registration in every Filipino’s lives, he said.

The month-long celebration is also a
reminder to the public, particularly parents and other stakeholders that
registration is very important, and it is their responsibility to provide
correct information during registration to prevent error in entries in the
civil registry documents.

There are still cases of children who
are born without birth certificates and people 50 or 60 years of age who don’t
have birth certificates, Telin said.

CCRO has a specialized program for the Indigenous Peoples called mobile registration that continuously serves interior
barangays in line with the 4K movement (Kaibigan, Kabalikat, Kaalam at
Katuwang).

Meanwhile, Telin reported that there
were more than 700 registered births in the city as of January this year.
According to data, registration of births has the highest number on the
list.

Telin calls on the public to support and
consider the importance of civil registration for an effective civil registry
system in the city. (Kaye Gumapac/NDU BAComm 3)
