'Fiesta sa Barangay opens as city prepares for Shariff Kabunsuan Day

COTABATO CITY - The Barangay Fiesta sa Plaza has opened here as part of the Shariff Kabunsuan Festival commemoration, officials said.
Councilor Abdillah Lim, president of the Association of Barangay Chairmen and ex-officio member of the city council, said the Fiesta sa Barangay is an inter-barangay craft and food fair to showcase food and products produce by 37 barangays of the city. This is an opportunity for every barangays in the city to showcase what they can offer, talent and products, Lim said.Added to the colorful evening until December 19, Shariff Kabunsuan Day is the nightly cultural presentation at the city plaza every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening.
Also in the list of activities is the street dancing contest as part of tourism promotion.
The Shariff Kabunsuan Festival is a commemoration of the arrival of Islamic preacher Shariff Kabunsuan and the arrival of Islam in the city several hundred years ago.
