Floods also hit Marawi City and Lanao del Sur
LANAO DEL SUR -- The provincial government on Tuesday deployed relief workers to seven Lanao del Sur towns hit by flash floods spawned by torrential rains on Monday.Thousands of residents in nearby Cagayan de Oro City, seat of Administrative Region 10, also got dislocated Monday by flash floods following heavy downpours.Flashfloods also swept through parts of Marawi City, capital of Lanao del Sur, a component province of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).Lanao del Sur Gov. Soraya Alonto-Adiong, chairperson of the inter-agency provincial peace and order council, said their pool of heavy equipment will be mobilized in areas hit by landslides and flash floods.The governor said all of their dump trucks are ready for relief missions in the affected towns, Ramain, Taraka, Kapai, Poona Bayabao, Maguing and Balabagan, all criss-crossed by large rivers that spring from forested hinterlands in Lanao del Sur.Adiong’s subordinate-officials in the provincial government placed at more than P10 million their initial estimate of the properties and infrastructures destroyed by the flash floods that hit the province.Adiong said relief supplies shall be delivered immediately to flood-stricken villagers.Officials, meanwhile, suspended starting Tuesday all classes in elementary and high schools in Cagayan de Oro City following Monday’s flash floods there that dislocated thousands.The city government of Cagayan de Oro also called on operators of hauler trucks and buses to help in the rescue of residents in flood-stricken areas.Cherry Mae Limbaco, superintendent of public schools in Misamis Oriental province, also announced on Tuesday morning that classes in schools under her jurisdiction have also been suspended starting Tuesday.Towns in Misamis Oriental and several barangays in its capital, Cagayan de Oro City, are traversed by big rivers that overflowed on Monday due to heavy downpours.Hundreds of students trapped in school buildings in Cagayan de Oro City were rescued in operations overnight carried out with the help of the police, the military and local volunteer groups.Meanwhile, the city council declared a state of calamity in CDO due to massive damage caused by the floods.Hit the comment section below and send your prayers to the affected people in Cagayan de Oro City.
