Girl dies in Koronadal irrigation canal

KORONADAL CITY
(Sept. 1/NDBC) – A 3-year-old girl drowned along an irrigation canal in a
remote village here after she allegedly fell off the lining canal, her mother
said.

Antopina, resident of Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Avancena, Koronadal City was
declared dead on arrival at the South Cotabato provincial hospital Sunday.
Mary Joy Antopina,
the girl’s mother, told DXOM-Radyo Bida Koronadal, said she went to a variety
store and did not noticed her daughter tailed her by crossing the irrigation
canal.
When she
returned home, her daughter was no longer there so she started searching for
the kid. The victim was fished out about
30 meters away and believed to have been underwater for about 10 minutes.
Mary Joy said
she suspected her daughter slid when she attempted to cross the wooden bridge
and was carried downstream by rampaging irrigation water.
She was rushed
to the hospital but declared DOA by attending physicians. (NDBC)
