Gomezand More than 100 injured in Ormoc City
ORMOC CITY -- City Mayor Richard Gomez today said one person was killed in a landslide in the city and more than 100 others were hurt after the Magnitude 6.5 quake hit Leyte Thursday afternoon.He said one bridge was totally damaged and three major roads in the city sustained cracks but still passable. There is still no power in Ormoc, Gomez said in a radio interview. We're hoping electricity will be back within the day. The actor turned politician said cellular communication lines are good and clear. We just need some help in mountain barangays because of the landslides and difficulty in getting in their area, he said, adding that local Phivolcs office recorded more than 100 aftershocks as of 6 a.m. today. Just at 5:16 this morning, I felt a very strong aftershock, he said.Ormoc City is experiencing rains this morning and Gomez asked assistance like shelter kits if the rains continue.Classes in all levels have been suspended in Ormoc and nearby provinces of Bohol and part of Southern Leyte.Ching Bernal posted on her FB page the photos below outside a hospital and outside a mall in Ormoc City after the tremor.
