Gunman hurt in shootout with CIDG agents in Maguindanao
MAGUINDANAO - A suspected gun-for-hire was wounded while two others were nabbed in a police operation on Friday morning in Datu Piang town in this province.
The injured Onz Meguan and cohorts Mangi Kato and Tato Tilendo, all ethnic Maguindanaons, are now in the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Agents of CIDG-ARMM were to locate five people wanted for criminal activities - the relatives Salam, Mike, Hadie, Ronnie and Zainudin, all surnamed Paglas, and Pake Eson --- in Barangay Balanaken, Datu Piang in an operation that went awry when they resisted, provoking a gunfight.
Meguan was shot just as he was to hurl a fragmentation grenade at the approaching CIDG-ARMM personnel led by Police Major Esmael Madin.
The raiding team recovered from the scene of the encounter five 40 millimeter grenade projectiles, rifle and pistol ammunition, and methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) in sealed sachets.
The targets of CIDG-ARMM’s operation were suspects in high-profile crimes and in distribution of shabu in remote barangays in the Datu Piang and nearby towns.
