COTABATO CITY -- An 18 percentincrease was recorded in early
registrations for Grade One by the end of the early registration period set by
the Department of Education Cotabato City Division on February 28.

This was learned from city schools
division superintendent Dr. Concepcion F. Balawag, Al Hadja, during an
interview by DXMS-Radyo Bida.

Balawag said DepEd Cotabato City
Division records show early registrants for Grade One reached 118 percent or 5,027 compared
to last year’s 4,721.

An increase was also noted in the number
of early registrants for Grade 11 (116 percent).

Meanwhile, lower numbers of early
registrants were recorded for Kindergarten (3, 600 or 71 percentof 2017’s total of
5,067) and Grade 7 (4,061 or 96 percent of last year’s number).

Balawag said the increase in the number
of early registrants could be due to transfers from private to public schools or
from schools in other areas to schools in the city due to change of residence.

The DepEd’s nationwide early registration
campaign ran from January 28 to February 28. It aims to determine early the
number of incoming students in public elementary, junior high, and senior high
schools to also enable early preparations for needs such as additional books,
desks, classrooms, and other facilities.

While the early registration period has
already ended, Balawag said parents who failed to avail of it need not worry as
they are still accepting registrations.

Regular enrollment for all levels in
public schools will start of May 5, she said.
