Koronadal utility worker, Grade 7 at 50
KORONADAL CITY - A 50-year-old father and his 12-year-old Grade 7 son are now classmates in a public high school in a remote village here.Juan Cabel and his son Benjie did not sit side by side but they belonged to the same Grade 7 class ofBacongco National High School, Pula Campus.The elder Cabel wanted to show to his children how important education is and age does not matter.Poverty forced Cabel out of school about 30 years ago.Benjie appeared hesitant to have his father as his classmate but he has no choice since the school has only one Grade 7 sectionAngel, Cabel's other son, said he helped convinced his father to return to school and continue his education.Actually, Cabel is the utility worker of the same school where he is enrolled now as Grade 7 pupil.The school is in the remote village of Assumption, Koronadal City.On June 1, the first day of classes, Cabel was quietly listening to his teacher.
