Meranao folk belie Wato Balindong tremor jolt

LANAO DEL SUR --- Local officials today said the Magnitude 6 tremor Sunday afternoon that reportedly originated underneath Wato Balindong town in Lanao del Sur was not even felt by residents.In a statement Monday, the office of Lanao del Sur Gov. Soraya Alonto-Adiong said the mayor of Wato Balindong, Benjie Bagul, confirmed late Sunday that his constituents did not feel the ground shake, contrary to reports.Adiong’s office said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported Sunday afternoon that the epicenter of the tectonic earthquake was in Wato Balindong. Mayor Bagul said they did not feel anything at all, the statement from Adiong’s office said.Even so, provincial emergency workers were reportedly dispatched to Wato Balindong to validate the assertions of local officials.
