MILF fighters, government security forces undergo training for peace
PARANG, Maguindanao - As peace takes hold in the Bangsamoro region, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process (OPAPP) led the ceremonial kickoff of the 2nd Joint Peace Security Teams (JPST) training on Monday, October 21, at Camp Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun in this town.
Von AlHaqq, co-chair of the JPSC-MILF and deputy minister of BARMM’s Ministry of Transportation and Communication, formally presented the JPST Batch 2 that include 152 MILF-BIAF members, 75 AFP members and 86 PNP members. While PBGen. Gerardo Rosales officially turned-over the 313 trainees to the Joint Training Team who will administer the 35-day training.
In a message read by Minister Abdulraof Macacua of Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Energy, Bangsamoro Government Chief Minister Alhajj Ahod "Murad" Ebrahim said: "As warrior of peace, we are obliged to do our very best in any task before us including our attentive participation to this training, In shaa Allah."
For his part, Macacua said:"Ang pagtitipon na ito ay nagpapatunay lamang na talagang makapangyarihan ang tinatawag nating kapayapaan. Kung hindi dahil sa kapayapaan wala po sa panaginip na tayo ay magkaisa as what we are witnessing today. Sana po lahat tayo ay pangalagaan ang kapayapaan na ito.”
Meanwhile, ASec. David B. Diciano, chairperson of Implementing Panel-GPH, stressed that all composite of the JPSTs will learn more about camaraderie, principles of peace and other skills necessary to properly equip them in maintaining peace and order during their deployment.
"Gamitin natin ang ating mga matututunan sa training for us to know how to secure and contribute in implementation the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro,” he said.
He also enumerated the other task of JPSTs that include the “tracking and documenting private armed groups, security arrangement for normalization activities, and support to dispute resolution initiatives on the ground."
The JPSTs are required to undertake the Basic Military Training as prescribed by the Department of National Defense to legalize the carrying of firearms during their deployment in areas mutually identified by both parties. (Bureau of Public Information)
