NDF-led farmers call Davao mayor ‘hypocrite’ Sara describes them ‘stupids’

KIDAPAWAN CITY – An underground group of farmers, thePambansang Katipunan ng mga Magbubukidin Southern Mindanao Region (PKM-SMR), has described Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as hypocrite for claiming that the communist rebels’ assault on the Lorenzo-owned Lapanday Foods Corporation is an ‘act of terrorism’ and a ‘personal insult.’ The PKM-SMR is under the umbrella organization of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines. For PKM-SMR spokesperson, Restituto Baguera, Sara Duterte’s claim that the NPA’s assault in the Lorenzo-owned businesses in Davao City is a personal insult, is not only hypocritical but downright self-serving. It is understandable that Duterte views the NPA’s punitive action as an act of terrorism against the Lorenzos, given that her husband, Attorney Mans Carpio, is a legal counsel of the Lapanday Foods Corp., said Baguer. Baguer stressed that last December, when La Panday’s private army attacked a group of farmers which wounded nine workers, Duterte has ‘hardly made noise’. For PKM-SRP, the rebels’ series of raids in Lapanday’s plants in Mandug and Bunawan, and ranch in Pangyan, Calinan, all in Davao City, is a fitting retributive action against a capitalist. The Lorenzo, according to PKM-SMR, is a ‘capitalist.’ For calling her, hypocrite , Duterte slammed NPA and described them instead as ‘stupid.’ I may be a hypocrite to you, but you are stupid to me and all the peace-loving Dabawenyos. Terrorists and fake organizations do not have the right to talk about social justice. Show me your faces and then maybe I will listen to your rant about social justice, she said in a statement releasedon Monday. She also explained that she and her husband are ‘two separate entities. On Saturday, communist rebels torched equipment and disarmed security personnel at several facilities owned by the Lorenzo clan in Southern Mindanao. The attacks were launched while the Philippines hosted the 30th Asean summit held in Manila.
