Nine Gensan establishments named diskwento champions

GEN. SANTOS CITY - Nine local commercial outfits were tagged diskwento champions” by the Department of Trade and Industry for having topped the list of establishments providing customers big discounts on merchandise they sell.In a statement Friday, DTI’s office in Region 12 identified the entities as Bambee’s Ventures Inc., Emson Egg Republic, Jojo Dried Fish, Julie’s Bakeshop, Salina’s Food, Kristan Educational Supply, the Gaisano Mall of Gensan and local outlets of the National Food Authority and the National Bookstore.The DTI-12 facilitated this week the Regional Diskwento Caravan in the region to educate the public and owners of local business establishments on the humanitarian and socio-economic relevance of enabling consumers to avail of discounts on commercial products.The latest caravan was the DTI-12’s eighth since January.Ebrahim Guimadel, director of DTI-12, said the continuing caravan is a flagship project of the department, aimed at easing the burden on consumers that are the first to be affected by fluctuations in the prices of prime commodities and services.Guiamadel said the vice-mayor of Gen. Santos City, Shirlyn Banas-Nograles, and her constituent-barangay officials helped facilitate the latest caravan, participated extensively by the local communities.Guimadel said besides ensuring the availability of goods for sale, DTI also extends business name registration and consumer complaint advisory services.He said among the topics discussed during their engagements with the local communities this week were consumer rights and responsibilities, product standards, the importance of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act and the Fair Trade Laws.The DTI’s latest Diskwento Caravan was assisted by its office in Gen. Santos City, the Gensan City government, various civil society organizations, the NFA, the office of the Department of Labor and Employment in Region 12.
