NoCot village councilman slain in second attempt on his life
KIDAPAWAN CITY – A village councilman in North Cotabato who survived assassination attempt last month succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds Sunday in a shooting in Pikit, North Cotabato.
Samama Samok, 58, village councilor of Barangay Rajamuda, Pikit, North Cotabato was sitting on his motorbike in front of a roadside variety store for a brief stopover when shot by two unidentified gunmen at 10:30 a.m.
Lt. Colonel Bernard Tayong, speaking for police in North Cotabato, said Samok sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Cruzado Medical Clinic in Poblacion Pikit.
Samok survived an assassination attempt on May 18 while driving his motorbike along the national highway, also in Barangay Unug-og.
Police are looking at personal grudge as the motive. Investigation as to the identities of the attackers continue.
Tayong said Colonel Maximo Layugan, North Cotabato police director, has ordered the Pikit municipal police office to fast tract the investigation to bring the perpetrators before the bar of justice.
