NorCot farmers hit by calamity get agri aid
KIDAPAWAN CITY, Philippines (Aug 14/NDBC) –- To sustain being the
region’s top rice producer, North Cotabato has extended calamity seeds
assistance to farmers organization, officials said today.
To date, close to P4.58 million worth of agricultural seeds were
distributed to the farmers in communities affected by calamities last
year and this year, a statement from Office of the Provincial
Agriculturist (OPAg) said.
OPAg said the calamity assistance aims to help farmers whose farms and
agricultural products were devastated by flash floods to recover and
restart farming.
Among the farmers and towns that received certified seeds were Carmen
with 742 bags of palay seeds, Kabacan (893 bags), Matalam (434), Pikit
(568), Pigcawayan (500), Mlang (267), Tulunan (122), individual
recipients had 286 bags.
In June and July, days of continuous rain around the country’s highest
peak – Mt. Apo, resulted into overflowing of rivers that inundated
hundreds of hectares of rice fields in low lying communities. (Neriza
