NUJP website hacked
The website of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) was hacked on Monday in what appeared to be an attempt to silence the press, NUCP officials said.In media statements, NUJP Chair Ryan Rosario said the hacking occurred on Monday evening and could not be accessed to date.Rosauro said the site was down beginning at 8 p.m. and could no longer be accessed even by the site administrator. He also said this is the first time the group's website was hacked. We do not know by whom but this we can say – whoever are responsible for this attack are enemies of press freedom and of free expression. They are vermin, narrow-minded, misbegotten souls who mistakenly believe that they can silence critical speech and thought in their desire to force people into accepting only one worldview – theirs, the NUJP chair said.Composed of about 1,500 members across the country and overseas, the NUJP has beenpromoting free expression and free press. They will never succeed, Rosario said of the hackers.Below is the statement of NUJP posted on its FB page. The website of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines ( and//www.nujp.org/ www.nujp.org ) was targeted by a massive denial of service attack tonight, January 9, 2017. Our page can no longer be accessed. We do not know by whom but this we can say – whoever are responsible for this attack are enemies of press freedom and of free expression. They are vermin, narrow-minded, misbegotten souls who mistakenly believe that they can silence critical speech and thought in their desireto force people into accepting only one worldview – theirs. But they can do their worst. They will never succeed. The independent Philippine press, the independent Filipino journalists, and the freedom-loving Filipino people will make sure of this, as we have done in the past and as we will do so again and again whenever basic rights and liberties are assaulted.
