South Cotabato farmers hurry drying palay as prices drop

KORONADAL
CITY - The prices of palay have started to decrease due to rainy season in South Cotabato, the
Provincial Agriculture Office reported today. Letty
Hansi, Provincial Agriculture Office agribusiness section focal person, said from
P18.00 to P19.50 in the previous weeks, palay is now sold at P16.00 to P18.00
per kilo. The
decreased in palay procurement prices is due to the coming harvest season
and the rains that affected its quality,” Hansi said. With
this development, prices of commercial rice in South Cotabato also started to
decrease. At
Koronadal City public market, commercial rice sells P40 to P46.00 per
kilo lower than last month’s selling price of P46.00 to P49.00

Commercial
rice traders in South Cotabato are optimistic that prices of rice in the province will not deteriorate even with
the onset of Christmas Seasons.
