PDEA nabs Maguindanao village chair, son for shabu, gun possession
COTABATO CITY – Anti-narcotics agents,
backed by police and soldiers, arrested Wednesday night a Maguindanao village
chairman and his son for possession of unlicensed guns and illegal drugs.
Another man who was also armed and present when
agents of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) was also arrested, according to PDEA Director Juvenal
Azurin.
Azurin said PDEA agents, Cotabato City police personnel
and soldiers served search warrants at 11:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day against
Kanakan Bagundang, chairman of Barangay Guiwa, Kabuntalan, Maguindanao and his
son, Mike in Barangay Poblacion Mother, Cotabato City.
Both suspects were armed but did not resist arrest,
Azurin said.
Seized from Bagundangs were three sachets of
prohibited drugs, digital weighing scale, smartphones, bank check booklet and deposit
slips and a .45 caliber paraordnance pistol and ammunition.
Azurin said Nasrudin Juanday who was in the village
chair’s house during the raid was also arrested. Taken from him was an unlicensed .45 caliber
pistol and bullets.
The trio is now detained at PDEA-ARMM lock-up cell
while charges for violation of RA 9165 and RA 10591 (anti-drug act and gun law)
are being prepared against them.
