PH – Miss Karen Santos Ibasco wins this year’s Miss Earth 2017 tonight.

KAREN SANTOS
IBASO (born December 17, 1990) is a Filipino medical physicist and the winner
of the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 pageant. EARLY LIFE AND
EDUCATION

Ibasco was
born on December 17, 1990 in Manila, Philippines.

She obtained
her bachelor and master's degrees in applied physics major in medical physics
at the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, where she graduated cum
laude on both degrees.

PAGEANTRY

Prior to Miss
Earth

Ibasco
competed at Binibining Pilipinas 2016 pageant representing the city of Manila
but was unplaced.

Miss
Philippines Earth 2017

Ibasco
participated and won in the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 on July 15, 2017 at the
Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and earned the right to represent the
Philippines tonigth's Miss Earth 2017 pageant.Ecuador’s Katherine Espin, last year’s Miss Earth winner, turned in the crown to Ibasco.Australia’s Nina Robertson was crownedMiss Earth Air 2017, Russia’s Lada Akimova as Miss Earth Fire 2017 and Colombia’s Juliana Franco as Miss Earth Water 2017.As medical physicist from one of the country's prestigious university - University of Sto Tomas, Ibasco has been advocating energy conservation through the renewable and sustainable energy. She has all the needed knowledge (and expertise) torespond to a question during the Q and A.She and all top four finalistswere asked Who or what she thinks is the biggest enemy of Mother Earth and why. Her replyand I believe that the real problem in this world is not climate change. The real problem is us because of our ignorance and apathy. What we have to do is to start changing our ways, to start re-calibrating our minds and redirecting our steps because together, as a global community, our micro-efforts will have a macro-effect to help save our home, our planet.
