Pikit floods start to recede
KIDAPAWAN CITY (Sept.
4/NDBC) – After four days of floods, the water level in at least 19 villages
of Pikit, North Cotabato have receded, disaster officials said.
Tahira Kalantungan,
Pikit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), said
the four days of torrential rains submerged 19 low lying villages of Pikit
after the Kabacan River and Malitubog-Maridagao rivers overflowed.
Kalantungan said the
villages of Macasendeg, Paidu Pulangi, Punol, Katicalan, Bulol and Damalasak are
being subjected to revalidation for the declaration of calamity.
Should favorable
weather, Kalatungan said, residents can return to their normal activities in
their respective communities.
Since most of the
families affected by floods did not evacuate, no families were displaced.
The municipal social
welfare office is expected to distribute relief assistance to flood victims.
