PNP impound more than 2,500 motor vehicles during Oplan Mapayapa implementation
KORONADAL CITY
– Police authorities in Region 12 have impounded and briefly held a total of
2,473 vehicles and motorcycles, including issuance of citation tickets to vehicles’
drivers for violation of local ordinances during the implementation of Oplan
Mapayapa.
Supt. Maximo
Sebastian, chief of Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-12), said the
operation in Gen. Santos City was conducted on June 28 to July 6 and July 9-12
in Koronadal City.
This is in
response to the policy directives of President Duterte to implement laws and
ordinances, Supt. Sebastian said.
Supt. Romeo
Galgo Jr, RMFB-12 deputy commander, said the Oplan Mapayapa will also be
implemented in other parts of the region.
Majority of
the impounded vehicles were motorbikes without pertinent documents like certificate
of registration and official receipts while some drivers do not possess driver’s
license and non-wearing of safety crash helmets.
Motorcycles
are the most common getaway vehicles after a crime was committed due to its
maneuverability in fleeing.
Sebastian and
Galgo said the implementation of Oplan Mapayapa is applied to all. In Carmen, North Cotabato, a total of 193 motorbikes and tricycles were impounded by the local police during the July 11 implementation of Oplan Lambat Bitag Sasakyan. Chief Inspector Joseph Brian Placer of North Cotabato police office and Senior Inspector Bascon of North Cotabato Mobile Force Company led the operation in partnership with Highway Patrol Group and other police units in Barangay Kimadzil.
