PRO 12 records 206 juvenile cases across Region 12
GEN. SANTOS CITY - In just three months from January to March 2018, thePolice Regional Office 12 (PRO 12) has recorded
206 number of juvenile cases involving Children In Conflict with the Law (CICL)
across Region 12.
Of the official
number recorded shows that the crime of Theft appeared to be the most prevalent
crime committed followed by Robbery, Physical Injuries during local gangs riots
and rumbles, Violation of Curfew for Minors, Rape, and Acts of Lasciviousness.
This year a total of
75 cases were recorded on the month of January, 93 on February, and 38 as of March
20, 2018.
Police Chief Supt. Marcelo C. Morales, PRO-12 regional director, has taken initiatives to address the issues confronting CICL through preventive measures like PNP Oplan Galugad in depressed areas where minors involved in crimes are taken into custody and turn over to social welfare office, and Oplan Sagip
Anghel, a campaign against child abuse and human trafficking.
PRO-12 is in constant coordination
with Local Government Units (LGU’s) and other concerned agencies of the
government such as Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
I have clearly
instructed every PNP units all over the region to implement the curfew for
minors as well as support Community-based Programs provided in a community
setting for intervention and diversion, and rehabilitation of the CICL’s, for
reintegration into his/her family and/or community, Morales said.The DSWD manages a
Youth Rehabilitation Center which provides care, treatment and rehabilitation
services for CICL that rehabilitates the offenders to reintegrate them into
their families and communities as socially functioning individuals where
physical mobility of offenders may be restricted pending court disposition of
the charges against them.
Morales, in a
statement, said that he personally oversee all law enforcement operations
relative to the protection and rescue of children in the region and that he is
closely monitoring the updates on the juvenile crime rate and accomplishments
of his men.
