Quevedoand Pray, instead of going out on excursion on Black Saturday
COTABATO CITY - His Eminence Orlando Cardinal B. Quevedo, OMI, DD, archbishop of Cotabato today reminded the Roman Catholic faithfuls to be quiet on Black Saturday, the second day of the Paschal Triduum. In his homily during the Mass of the Evening Mass of the Lord's Last Supper on Holy Thursday at the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral, Quevedo said it has been a practice among some Filipino Catholics to go on outing and excursion during Black Saturday. Please don't go to the beach, stay, pray and meditate on this day, Quevedo said. You can rejoice on Easter Sunday, you can celebrate with the Risen Christ. He went on explaining to the Churchgoers the importance of Paschal Triduum or the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. He said Holy Thursday, Black Saturday and Easter Sunday are the three holiest days of the Catholic Church. The greatest love of all is when Jesus gave his life for you and me, he said. The country's second active cardinal and Mindanao's first also urged the flock to serve others as God is a servant.Fr. Mylo Hubert C. Vergara, DD, bishop of Pasig, in his reflections in today's Sambuhay (Missalette), quoted Jesus as saying in John 13:14-15: If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet, I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have for you, you should also do.
