Region 12 police neutralize 57 drug traffickers in two months

GENERAL SANTOS CITY ---- Policemen in Region 12 had killed 57 drug traffickers and arrested 886 more from between July 1 to September 15 in operations launched with the help of local officials.Records obtained Monday from the office of Supt. Romeo Galgo, Jr., spokesman of the Police Regional Office 12 (PRO-12) here, indicated that agents in towns and cities in Central Mindanao had also seized 1,997 sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) from peddlers and drug dependents arrested during the period.The PRO-12 covers the cities of Cotabato, Koronadal, Tacurong and Kidapawan, and the provinces of Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato and North Cotabato.Galgo said they attribute largely their accomplishments in implementing Malacañang’s anti-narcotics program in these areas to the support of mayors and provincial governors, whose offices also have projects complementing Malacañang’s initiative.Most of the anti-narcotics operations carried out in the past 13 weeks were assisted by barangay officials and local executives.Galgo said the PRO-12 and local government units in Region 12 are now focused on massive information campaigns to disseminate the importance of Malacañang’s anti-narcotics programs.
