Region 12 wins 3 national Gawad Saka Awards 2018

KORONADAL CITY -- The Department of Agriculture has revealed the national winners for the 2018 installment of Gawad Saka Search.In an official communication sent to DA – Regional Field Office XII, Region XII also known as SOCCSKSARGEN Region claimed three of 20 national awards. Engineer Daniel F. Apostol, this city, is this year’s outstanding high value crops farmer who owns an organic-based farm planted to different plantation crops such as cacao and coconut as well as fruit crops like durian, rambutan and lanzones.Another national winner from the region is Engr. Ernesto Pantua, Jr. as the outstanding organic agriculture farmer. Pantua is one of the owners of Kablon Farms, Incorporated based in nearby town of Tupi. Kablon Farms has been providing its clients with the choice to bring home the best with its delicious products such as juices, jams, jellies, tablea, among others.Under the institution category, Tampakan Municipal Agricultural andamp Fishery Council clinched the top spot for the outstanding MAFC category. Tampakan MAFC, headed by its chairman Stephen Divinagracia, has been instrumental in facilitating their farmer-members access projects from the government particularly from the DA.Each national winner is expected to receive cash prizes, Gawad Saka trophy and a presidential citation from President Rodrigo Duterte as the latter is expected to lead the awarding ceremony at the Malacañan Palace before the year ends.Regional Executive Director Milagros Casis has expressed her happiness after knowing that the region wins big in Gawad Saka this year. Based on the list, Region XII is one of the regions who gets the biggest number of winners, she said.She also mentioned that she is delighted with the performances of the region’s entries both to the national winners and those who were shortlisted as national finalists.In 2017, the region produced two national winners. They were Dr. Emma K. Sales of University of Southern Mindanao as outstanding agricultural scientist and Gerardo G. Cordero of this city as outstanding coconut farmer.
