SoCot lady town councilors' brod runs amok, kills 1, hurts 1
KORONADAL CITY -– A 67-year-old armed man, brother of a town councilor,irked by
shutting down of road network in Banga, South Cotabato because of town foundation
anniversary ran amok and fired at two men Friday night, killing a teenager, policesaid.
Chief Inspector Marvin Duadua, Banga town police, identified the
suspect as Norberto Javellana, a resident of Barangay Benitez, Banga town, about
15 kilometers south of here.
Banga was celebrating its 75th foundation anniversary
with culminating program at the town plaza.
Roads around the town center were closed to traffic.
Javellana was driving his car near the town plaza at about 9:45 p.m. but could not get through due to road barricades. Irked, he pulled his 9mm
pistol and fired two shots indiscriminately, hitting two civilians, identified
in the police report as Darryl Villaruel and Salim Pandilang, 31, who later died in the hospital.Police arrested Javellana and put him behind bar. His Armscor 9 mm pistol was seized and
charges for violation of election gun ban and illegal possession of firearms
are being prepared against him.Police also invited for questioning town Councilor Alex Garcia, also armed with a handgun, fired warning shots in an attempt to get the attention of Javellana.Garcia's warning shot called the attention ofJavellana who fired shots toward the direction of Councilor Garcia.
