KORONADAL CITY-- Police and inmates foiled an attempt by four detainees who attempted to bolt out of Koronadal City police lock-up cell early today. Supt. Barney Condes, Koronadal City police director, told DXOM-AM Radyo Bida that the escape plot was discovered after detainees of other lock-up cell alerted police officers on duty at about 2:30 a.m. Image may contain outdoor sand//scontent.fceb2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/15590519_1144592558980885_2139244771440352981_n.jpg?oh=43d8c894987261ae6ae112c22244573candampoe=58F845A4 (The unfinished hole in a concrete wall of PNP lock-up cell/RPO)Condes said the lock-up cell watch officer quickly responded and prevented the escape of inmates Rex Valeriano, 29 Lyndon Calanza, 29 Alex Mangudadatu, 23 and Rodelo Moliji, 18. Condes said all of them were facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Another was also facing robbery charges. Recovered from the detainees' possession were six spoons, a bamboo pole and a five-inch concrete nail that they used in slowly carving a hole on a concrete wall. Condes said the action of other inmates in alerting the police officers was a result of humane treatment the police have been giving the inmates. Following the discovery of escape try, Condes temporarily suspended jail visits even as he stressed that spoons are not among the banned items inside the half-way detention facility. Condes has ordered the police to strictly monitor the inmates and institute measures that will prevent future attempts to flee the lock-up cell.
