Condes said all of them were facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Another was also facing robbery charges. Recovered from the detainees' possession were six spoons, a bamboo pole and a five-inch concrete nail that they used in slowly carving a hole on a concrete wall. Condes said the action of other inmates in alerting the police officers was a result of humane treatment the police have been giving the inmates. Following the discovery of escape try, Condes temporarily suspended jail visits even as he stressed that spoons are not among the banned items inside the half-way detention facility. Condes has ordered the police to strictly monitor the inmates and institute measures that will prevent future attempts to flee the lock-up cell.
