Tacurong City aces rule DOT Quiz Bowl

KORONADAL CITY– Two beautiful and handsome students from Tacurong City rules this year's Department of Tourism 12 Quiz Bowl in Tacurong City Monday.The smart and talentedJesus Lagutan and Shyla Vee Fabuna coached by Fretch Nocete, Tacurong City contingents, bested other participants in the Quiz Bowl sponsored by DOT-12 and Tacurong City local government.Aired live over Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation (NDBC) Radio Stations in Cotabato, Kidapawan and KoronadalCity,the annual quiz bowl contest was part of the tourism month celebration this month.Seven pairs showed their talents and knowledge to answer20 question about tourism in the Philippines. They came fromCotabato City, Tacurong City, Kidapawan City, Koronadal City, South Cotabato Province, Cotabato Province and Sarangani Province.Rolyn Bannawag and Alvie Jane Decatoria coached by Mildred Samblaceno, the Koronadal City contingents won the second prize while Tacurong City and Cotabato Province had to break the tie.Cotabato Province contingent ofKimberly Mae Magno with Katrina Nuzca coached by Rose Ann Jordan won the first runner up award.Runner Ups were awarded with trophies, medals, and certificates, while the first runner up and champion were given tour packages to Lake Sebu and New Israel sponsored by the local government units, all three winners were awarded with modest cash prizes.The Tourism Quiz Bowl was sponsored by Baras Bird Sanctuary, Notre Dame Tacurong College, K’datu Souvenirs, Monte Vicenteau Resort, Mountain Lake Eco Resort, Local Government Units South Cotabato and Cotabato Province.DOT-12 Regional Director Nelly Dillera said most of the participants were students and youth whose interests are into tourism. This is imperative because they will not just learn what their teachers are teaching them at school, but also what is happening in the real world…our questions actually are very practical, very realistic,” she said. We used radio for the first time because we realize it has a wider reach so that we will not only teach the students about tourism but also those who are listening in their houses,” she added.The tourism quiz bowl is one of the highlights of the activities being conducted by the DOT in line with the celebration of the month of Tourism every September, this year’s theme is Tourism and Community Development.
