Tacurong's displaced workers get aid from DOLE-12

TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat – More than 120 displaced workers and ambulant vendors in Sultan Kudarat province have begun a new life after receiving Kabuhayan Starter Kits”, worth P1,174,635, under a livelihood program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), an official has said.In simple rites held at the provincial capitol Friday, DOLE Region 12 director, Albert Gutib, urged beneficiaries of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) to maximize the use of the starter kits to give themselves and their families a better life.The Kabuhayan starter kits provide raw materials for meat processing, pastry-making, balut-making, vending halo-halo, and opening food stalls, as well as equipment for dressmaking, car wash, carpentry, welding, and tire vulcanizing.The provincial government also received a Job Search Kiosk, an information portal housed in an ATM-type, stand-alone equipment that provides information on local/overseas job opportunities and other employment-related information.The kiosk helps job seekers gain quick access to information on job openings, and employers' hiring or upgrading requirements through programs of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).Gutib meanwhile announced that DOLE-12 has extended assistance to policemen wounded in a grenade blast in Saranggani province through the Employees Compensation Commission (REU-12).The beneficiaries -- Inspector Danilo Abataya, PO1 Almasir Tingkasan, Romel Badua, Rowell Sobretado, Sukran Sugod, and PO2 Mark Naya -- were injured when unidentified men lobbed a hand grenade at the gate of the Maasim police station last month.The commission, through its administrative officer, Jerylle Marie Q. Blanza, coordinated with the Maasim Police to inform them of the documents they would need to file employees' compensation benefits at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
