Tribu Manubiaw wins Talakudong street dancing show

TACURONG CITY
(Sept. 19) – Tribu Manubiaw” dancers were all emotional and exciting, holding
their breath when the verdict of this
city’s Talakudong Festival street dancing contest was announced.

Tribu Kudong,
their toughest opponent, was proclaimed 1st runner-up winner, Tribu
Manubiaw erupted in cheers, yelling, hugging each other as tears shed in their
eyes because got the crown.

Tribu Manubiaw
of the Central Tacurong District is the champion of this year’s street dancing
and field demonstration competition dubbed Lumbayag sa Dalanon kag Kiay-Kiay sa
Talakudong held Thursday.

Lumbayag and
Kiay-kiay are the known highlights of Talakudong Festival every year.

Manubiaw
bested four other tribu (tribes).
Manubiaw was also recognized as the tribu with the best music and best field
exhibition.

Last year’s
champion, Tribu Kudong, put up a very tough battle yet failed to defend its
title. However, Kudong was adjudged as best in street dance and best in street
showdown. Tribu Kudong is composed of students in the North Tacurong District.

Meanwhile,
Tribu Kadsayap of South Tacurong District was adjudged 2nd
runner-up.

Participating
delegations rehearse months prior to the competition hence Tacurongnons and
local tourists always look forward to the event. Tribus never fail to amaze
spectators with their exhibitions using the ‘talakudong’, a native headgear
wherein Tacurong got its name.

Every year,
each delegation seems to blend the pressure to win and the excitement to be
able to deliver grand performances. I am always in awe,” said Mayor Lina O.
Montilla.

The mayor also
thanked the City Schools Division of Tacurong for its support year after year.

Talakudong
Lumbayag and Kiay-kiay showcase Tacurong’s culture and history. At the same
time, it gives opportunities to schools and students to show off their
competitive edges.

This year, it
was an honor for the delegations to perform before Senate President Franklin M.
Drilon and guests namelyand South Cotabato Governor Daisy P. Avance-Fuentes,
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog of Iloilo, Mayor Peter B. Miguel of Koronadal, Mayor
Diosdado Pallasigue of Isulan, Mayor Rolando Garcia of Kalamansig, and Mayor
