Cardinal Quevedo, 4th Oblate to be honored by ADMU

COTABATO CITY (Sept. 14/NDBC) -- On September 16, the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) will honorHis Eminence Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, OMI, DD,archbishop of Cotabato, and five other men and women who exemplify the university in their respective fields.The cardinalis the 4th OMI so honored by ADMU. The first was Archbishop Gerard Mongeau, OMI, one of the seven Oblate pioneers in the Philippines,the second was posthumous award given to Jolo Bishop Benjamin de Jesus, OMI and the third was given to Fr. Eliseo 'Jun Mercado, OMI. The recognition will be during the ADMU Special Academic Convocation at Rev. Henry Lee Irvin, S.J. Theatre. Cardinal Quevedo's citation readsand Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo, OMI DD Missionary and peace builder Bukas Palad Award Since his ordination in 1964, Cardinal Quevedo has taken on a succession of responsibilities, each one bigger and more challenging than the last, starting from his work in the OMI community and apostolate, then in the ministry of the Church in the Philippines, in Asia, and in Rome. Throughout those years, he has proven to be an authentic peace builder, especially between Christians and Muslims in Mindanao. He has consistently championed the rights of the poor and marginalized in society, regardless of their beliefs.Through his work and his life, Cardinal Quevedo truly embodies the Ignatian spirit of generosity and has greatly contributed to the creation of what Pope Francis calls a culture of encounter,” which the pope says is the foundation of peace.
