DTI-DOE lead Consumer Welfare Month celebration

KORONADAL
CITY - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-12) and Department of Energy
(DOE) led government agencies in Region 12in the celebration of Consumer Welfare
Month (CWM) this October with a series of activities highlighting consumer
rights.

Observe
during the whole month of October, the celebration was done by virtue of Presidential
Decree No. 1098, where consumers’ rights are highlighted and disseminated.

Government agencies, local government units, private
sectors and the consumers join hands in advancing the cause of consumers.

This
year, the Department of Energy spearheads the celebration with the themeand Sapat
na Impormasyonand Susi sa Wastong Paggamit ng Enerhiya.”

Consumer
fora were conducted on October 8 and 9 at EMR Recreational Center in Koronadal
City and Mix and Magic Restaurant in General Santos City, respectively.

Tips
on energy conservation, household LPG, liquefied petroleum products and
mandates of the agency were thoroughly presented by Virgilio Arzadon and Nilo Geroche
of the DOE-Mindanao.

Concerns
on the complaint against the bote-bote” selling of gasoline and diesel can be
referred to the local government units where the sellers are located, according
to DOE.

Updates
on the electricity rates and development in the utility services of SOCOTECO 1 were
also presented. Noticeably, fluctuation in power supply in their area of
operation was no longer a problem.

As
consumers, DTI stressed the importance of being able to exercise consumer
rights and partaking consumer responsibilities at all times.

It also
emphasized the need for awareness on the quality and safety of products as
shown in the presentation of the Standardization schemes for consumer products.

More
than 200 participants from the consumers, academe, students, government
employees, senior citizens, women sector, electricity providers, gasoline and LPG
dealers and other sectors, attended the activities.
