Rabid dog bites 10 in 3 Cotabato City villages

COTABATO CITY – Beware of dogs!
This time it is
a rabid dog that already bitten 10 persons in three villages here Thursday.
The Cotabato
City veterinary office has issued a strong public alert against a brown rabid
dog that attacked 10 persons in succession in three adjoining villages here,
from Sinsuat Avenue to Notre Dame Village.
This is very
alarming, City Veterinarian Dr. Robert Malcontento said as he reminded the public
to be on watch of this brown rabid dog.
The 10 bitten
persons are now safe after they were given anti-rabies vaccine at the Cotabato
Regional and Medical Center.
But
Malcontento said the public is still at risk.
His office is
closely working with the officials Barangay Rosary Heights 7, 8 and 9 where the
victims reside.
He said the
dog must be captured and subjected to mercy killing so its head will be sent to
Regional Diagnostic Laboratory in Gen. Santos City for confirmation.
If the dog is
killed, its head must be preserved, turned over to our office for laboratory
examination, he said.Malcontento
also appealed to dog bite victims to continue following up medication at CRMC
to ensure the virus is eliminated from them.
With the
incident, Malcontento said he is pushing for the acquisition by the city
government of an animal control unit vehicle to impound stray dogs in the city.
