Maguindanao town councilor survives ambush, is hurt

DATU ABDULLAH SANGKI, Maguindanao -- Unidentified armed men on board a motorbike tried, but failed, to assassinate a village chairperson who sits as town councilor Monday, police said.Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police provincial director, said the victim, Councilor Edris Dading Sangki, 45, chairperson of Barangay Kaya-Kaya here was driving his Isuzu trooper with his 13-year-old son en route to Ampatuan town when two men on a motorbike opened fire at about 7 a.m.The gunmen, armed with cal. 45 pistol, fled quickly believing the local official was finished.Sangki, president of Abdullah Sangki Association of Barangay Chairperson (ABC) and ex-officio member of town council, was hit in his abdomen but managed to drive until they reached Tamondong Hospital in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.Tello said the motive could be rido (family feud) involving the victim and other Moro clan in Maguindanao.Tello said
