PNP cautions public on posting personal info in social media

MANILA (PNA) -- The Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group (PNP-ACG) on Friday advised the public, especially individuals who are hooked on the social media, to take the utmost precautionary measures in posting their personal information.The PNP made the advisory in the aftermath of the controversy involving basketball player Kiefer Ravena, who was allegedly victimized by extortion using the social media or Internet.PNP-ACG spokesman Supt. Jay Guillermo said there were many instances that the posting of several pictures, video or even personal messages on social media or Viber group are merely being taken for granted by some netizens without taking into consideration that it could also pose danger in their respective personal lives.The PNP also advised the public never to trust or provide personal information to anybody, particularly to people they have known for a short period of time.
