Lawmaker asks DPWH to correct accident prone portion of Cotabato-Davao highway
MAKILALA, North Cotabato -- A local lawmaker in North Cotabato has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways to correct portions of the Cotabato-Davao highway prone to highway crash to save lives and properties. Provincial Board Member Socrates Pinol has submitted a resolution in the provincial council strongly urging the DPWH first engineering district to look into the faulty road design of a highway in Poblacion Makilala that resulted to frequent and repeated road accidents. in a resolution addressed to District Engineer Elpidio Birog, Pinol urged the DPWH to look into the faulty road design that brought series of accidents starting January 2017. Pinol stressed that even if he is not a civil engineer the road mishaps that happened in the curve section of Purok 11 (Patulangon, Makilala) indicates that something was wrong with it that needs to be corrected. In a report submitted to Pinol's office Police Chief Inspector Elias Colonia, said a total of five road crashes involving eight vehicles had been recorded by the municipal police station since January this year. According to the police blotter, one person died in the mishaps while a total of 19 persons were injured. Pinol said correcting the design will save lives and properties and prevent highway mishaps in the future.
